Make Free Calls on iPhone Using Facebook Messenger

  • by Neeraj
  • January 17, 2013
Facebook is rolling out a feature in their messenger apps for iPhone wherein the users will be able to make free calls to other iPhone user. This feature was released a week ago in Canada and now it can be used by users in other countries as well. However, the feature will not let you make calls on landlines or mobiles numbers and as of now, is limited to users of iPhone only.

Facebook Free Calls

In order to use the feature, you need to login in your Facebook messenger app, select a friend whom you want to make call, then click on the “i” icon in the upper right hand corner. This will bring an option called “Free Call”. Obviously your friend at the other end needs to be logged-in in their Facebook Messenger app, in order to receive the call.

Users will not have to update the app in order to get this feature. It will automatically start appearing for the people who are using the messenger app on their cell phone. You can make the calls over Wi-Fi or a 3G, 4G or LTE connection, however; Wi-Fi would be a better affordable option as your data plans eatup your bandwidth and will prove to be more expensive than direct calls.

Earlier, Facebook was rumoured to be working on Facebook Mobile that was expected to be announced on Tuesday (15th Jan 2013), however, instead of Facebook Smartphone, it came up with a great feature for smartphone i.e. free calls. It seems that they are working to transform our phones in to Facebook phones with such features.

The company didn’t confirm whether and when the Messenger app calling would come to Android or the Web. However, it would be a great offering if such service arrives for  its web interface as it may prove to be more useful for laptop and desktop users. If Facebook have not planned for it, we would like to suggest them.

Offering more surprises from their pockets, Facebook also announced their new feature called Graph Search that offers a is a new way for you to find people, photos, places and interests that are most relevant to you on Facebook. Have a look at the below link to learn more about it.
